Know your customer. Anti-money laundering.
As a precious metal refiner and bullion dealer, Australis Refinery verifies the identity of every customer transacting $5,000 or more, and keeps a record of every transaction, in line with Australia's Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 and the requirements of AUSTRAC. It protects you, protects us and keeps illicit metal out of the supply chain.

Why we ask
Three things we do on every account.
Identify
Before we buy from or sell to you, we establish who you are — whether an individual, or a company, trust, partnership, self-managed super fund or other entity, along with the people who own and control it.
Verify
Identity is confirmed against certified copies of original documents, and bank details against a statement or bank letter in the same name. Payments are only ever made to that verified account.
Record & report
Transaction and identification records are kept for seven years, and we meet our reporting obligations to AUSTRAC, including for physical cash transactions of $10,000 or more.

How do I sell to Australis Refinery?

This information is a guide only, so please email or call our office anytime to discuss the process further. Overseas parties should contact us before sending anything.
Private customers
Selling bullion, nuggets, alluvial or scrap as an individual.
Australian private customers and sole traders will be asked for the following. ID copies must be certified by a Justice of the Peace or another authorised certifier, and we need the original certified copies before your first payout.
- Our Australian Business Details & Beneficial Owner form, completed as an individual or sole trader and signed — it records your name, date of birth, residential address and contact details
- A certified copy of your current driver licence or passport
- Your bank account details for payment by EFT — BSB and account number, entered on the form
- If you do not have an ABN, the ATO's Statement by a supplier form, so we can pay you without withholding tax
Business customers
Setting up a company or partnership account to buy or sell.
Australian businesses set up an account once. To buy or sell bullion, or to sell alluvial, scrap and similar material, we will need the following. ID copies must be certified by a Justice of the Peace or another authorised certifier.
- Our Australian Business Details & Beneficial Owner form, completed and signed — business or company name, ABN and ACN, principal activity, and a business address that is not a PO box
- Details of the authorised person dealing with us — the director or owner — including their position, date of birth and residential address
- The names of all shareholders holding 25% or more
- A copy of the current driver licence, both sides, of every shareholder holding 25% or more, together with a selfie of each person holding their licence so both sides are clearly visible — or, alternatively, post us an original certified copy
- Another form of ID verifying the name and residential address of every shareholder holding 25% or more, such as an electricity bill or rates notice
- A copy of your ASIC registration form
- A copy of a bank statement, top section only, verifying your business name, BSB and account details
- Two trade references
- Your GST registration status and your authorisation for us to issue recipient created tax invoices (RCTIs), both on the form
Why we ask for shareholder ID. We complete our compliance check on each shareholder through GreenID, which verifies name and residential address only. The check may appear on a person's file as a credit enquiry, but it is not a credit check.
International customers
Businesses outside Australia.
Overseas businesses complete our International Business Details & Beneficial Owner form instead. It asks for the same business, authorised person and shareholder details as the Australian form, with certified ID for the authorised person and every shareholder holding 25% or more, and your bank name, SWIFT code and account number for payment by international transfer in AUD or USD. Please contact us before sending anything.
What to expect
Verification first, then payment.
Send your certified documents by post to PMT Pty Ltd, Compliance, PO Box 385, Ormeau QLD 4208, or bring them with you when you drop off material. We check them, confirm your account, and from then on you simply trade.
For new clients, payment is made once analysis is complete and verification is in place. Payment is by bank transfer to the verified account in your name. Overseas parties should contact us before sending anything.
